Generalized ®nite element methods for three-dimensional structural mechanics problems

چکیده
The present paper summarizes the generalized ®nite element method formulation and demonstrates some of its advantages over traditional ®nite element methods to solve complex, three-dimensional (3D) structural mechanics problems. The structure of the stiness matrix in the GFEM is compared to the corresponding FEM matrix. The performance of the GFEM and FEM in the solution of a 3D elasticity problem is also compared. The construction of p-orthotropic approximations on tetrahedral meshes and the use of a-priori knowledge about the solution of elasticity equations in three-dimensions are also presented. 7 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. A New Stress Based Approach for Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis
This article demonstrates a new approach for nonlinear finite element analysis. The methodology is very suitable and gives very accurate results in linear as well as in nonlinear range of the material behavior. Proposed methodology can be regarded as stress based finite element analysis as it is required to define the stress distribution within the structural body with structural idealization a...
متن کاملTime-Discontinuous Finite Element Analysis of Two-Dimensional Elastodynamic Problems using Complex Fourier Shape Functions
This paper reformulates a time-discontinuous finite element method (TD-FEM) based on a new class of shape functions, called complex Fourier hereafter, for solving two-dimensional elastodynamic problems. These shape functions, which are derived from their corresponding radial basis functions, have some advantages such as the satisfaction of exponential and trigonometric function fields in comple...
متن کاملA New Three-Dimensional Sector Element for Circular Curved Structures Analysis
In this research paper, the formulation of a new three-dimensional sector element based on the strain approach is presented for plate bending problems and linear static analysis of circular structures. The proposed element has the three essential external degrees of freedom (Ur, Vθ and W) at each of the eight corner nodes. The displaceme...
متن کاملProbabilistic fracture mechanics: J-estimation and ®nite element methods
The objective of this study was to evaluate the adequacy of current J-estimation models commonly used in probabilistic elastic±plastic analysis of ductile cracked structures. A newly developed probabilistic model based on elastic±plastic ®nite element method was used to evaluate the J-estimation model. In both models, the analyses involve elastic±plastic fracture mechanics for underlying determ...
متن کاملEvaluation of Three Unstructured Multigrid Methods on 3D Finite Element Problems in Solid Mechanics
Multigrid has been a popular solver method for nite element and nite di erence problems with regular grids for over 20 years. The application of multigrid to unstructured problems is, however, not well understood and has been an active area of research in recent years. The two most promising categories of unstructured multigrid methods are 1) \geometric" methods that use standard nite element c...
